Social Studies Department and Electives Goals
1. Writing: Page 387: 4 Essays (1 of which is a DBQ) in every yearlong class. 2 Essays (1 of which) in every semester class. Writing will be tied to Arizona Common Core Standard
· 9-10.W.4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience
· 9-10.W.5: Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach, focusing on addressing what is most significant for a specific purpose and audience.
· 9-10.W.7: Conduct short as well as more sustained research projects to answer a question or solve a problem; narrow or broaden the inquiry when appropriate; synthesize multiple sources on the subject, demonstrating understanding of the subject under investigation.
2. Language: Page 400: 9-10.L.2: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard capitalization, punctuation and spelling when writing.
3. Reading: Page 358: Every SS class will bring in outside readings for the class. A Minimum of 20 Readings (10 a semester) for Year-Long Classes and 10 Outside Readings for Semester Long Classes.
· 9-10.RL.1: Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
4. Speaking: Page 396: 9-10.SL.2: (2 per year) Oral Presentation/Class Discussion: Integrate multiple sources of information presented in diverse media or formats evaluating the credibility and accuracy of each source.
5. Math: Page 94: S-ID: Summarize, represent, and interpret data on a single count or measurement variable. (Interpreting Graphs) Will incorporate into our DBQ’s
6. Technology: We will use and introduce new modes of technology, 10 times in year-long classes (5 per semester) and 5 per semester long classes.
